Chaco Dog Leach--defective metal clip - by , Apr 21, 2014
1/ 5 Stars
I just purchased a chaco dog leash from REI, model JC195194, Copperhead Model, the SKU is 18466 75825 0 I think there may be a problem with the metal clip on this leash. Good thing my husband tested it inside with my dog as the metal clip/clasp totally opened up somehow and my dog was running around with just his collar on inside our house. How did that happen? I am going to return it tomorrow but thought you would like to know about it; I think there is an issue with this clip. Please check your inventory to make sure the clips work.

Wanted to love it... - by , Jun 25, 2014

As a Chaco-lover, I was excited to receive this product. I love the webbing design (marshes) and the plastic clip that allows the loop to be adjusted. I wanted to love it, I really did. However, the metal clip that attaches to the harness/collar is worthless. Over the past few weeks that I have used the leash, the clip has detached from my dog's harness multiple times, unexpectedly and without reason. I walk my dog on a busy street multiple times a day, and I cannot continue to use this leash out of concern for his safety. At first, I thought it might just be my particular leash, but after reading other customers' reviews, I realize that it is product flaw. Chaco, are you doing anything to address this very apparent issue in the product design?

Wanted to love it -- clip is dangerous - by , Jul 02, 2014

This is the third time I've tried to leave a review about this leash over the past two weeks (none of my others have been posted). I wanted to love this leash. The webbing design is beautiful and I love the plastic buckle with adjustable loop. However, the metal clip that attaches to the collar/harness is defective. On several occasions while walking my dog, this clip has detached itself unexpectedly and for no reason (my dog wasn't lunging or anything of the sort). Fortunately, on none of these occasions did my dog decide to run when he realized he was "free." I cannot, with good conscience, use this leash for fear of my dog's safety. Chaco, there are several other reviews stating similar concerns with the leash. How many negative review or injured dogs will it take for you to fix the problem?

Dangerous design flaw - by , Sep 30, 2014
1/ 5 Stars
I bought this leash while on vacation with my dog. I love the material and the hands-free feature, however there is a serious design flaw. The hook that attaches to leash or harness has come unhooked several times during our walks. I tried to wire the plastic black piece below the silver hook in place so that it doesn't push up and open the latch, however it won't stay. It happened again today and I will need to retire the leash or get someone to put a different hook on it. My dog is very well trained and immediately comes back to me when I call, but if others have this problem I am concerned that a dog could run into traffic and be hit by a car. Maybe even be killed.

Love Me Some Chaco-The Leash Not So Much - by , Dec 09, 2014
1/ 5 Stars
Me and my corgi pup were instantly attracted to the Chaco leash for many reasons! The durability, length, design (of course), and ability to wear as a runner's belt. Top-notch stuff right there. Unfortunately, the latch that connects to the collar is very unreliable. While walking my dog, I noticed he had become unhooked many times leaving him completely unattached to the leash. I really wish I could recommend the leash to friends, but it's extremely unsafe and I'm really disappointed in the product. Every thing else about the leash is high-quality, but the most important part is not. Sorry guys can't recommend this one :/

Metal clasp will set your dog free - by , Dec 16, 2014

I loved the old leash and its standard metal clasp but this new design although it is easy to attach to a dog collar it can come off. I don't know if this is just my experience but I've had my dog get off the leash multiple times to the point i won't even use this leash anymore. I hope they recall these and return to the old design.

Too light and smooth for a dog leash - by , Nov 11, 2018
1/ 5 Stars
The material is too smooth and not wide enough to get a nice grip on the leash. I have a puppy who likes to pull and I've had to get a different leash. This is also the only leash I've owned that gives me rope burns (I've had two other dogs and I've worked for a groomer.) Super cute and I love that the leash matches the collars but coming from a company I stand behind, I expect more.

Great Idea, But Bad Buckle - by , Jul 23, 2012

I owned this product for two months and loved it. I'd sworn off Chaco Dog products (more on that later), but this was on sale at REI and the idea was too great to pass up. You have no idea how convenient having an adustable-sized loop with a buckle on it is until you've tried it. It allows hands-free handling of my dog, which is a revelation. I could run with my dog officially on leash, but it feels like I'm running leash free. I could easily clip it to any stationary object, and adjust the size of the leash to allow my dog more or less movement. I could train with the leash looped over my shoulder, so I could drop the leash to give him treats or correct him using both hands. Really, its a great idea. So why did I return it? The reason I was hesitant to buy it in the first place was that the plastic buckle on my Chaco collar had jammed so badly I had to cut it off my dog. To Chaco's credit, they responded within minutes of my complaint, apolgizing and offering to replace it immediately. When I saw this leash, I was hesitant because of the buckle, but I decided that the previous situation might have been a fluke, and even if it wasn't, a jammed buckle on a leash wasn't so bad. Fast forward to today, when I had to cut the leash off a lamp post because, once again, the buckle jammed so badly three other people weren't able to get it to come loose. My dog used to be a bad puller, but he learned a good heal before I even bought this leash, so it's not like it's been abused. Maybe I'm just getting all the bad equipment, but I'm two-for-two on buckle failures, so I'm done. Chaco still makes a great sandle. They should stick with that.

Beware - Clasp Randomly Opens - by , May 13, 2014
2/ 5 Stars
We recently bought the dog leash for our 9 week old miniature Labradoodle. While the leash is fantastic in many ways, it has randomly detached from the collar several times - leaving our dog unexpectedly wandering around. The first couple of times we thought it might have been the result of us failing to make a clean connection. Since then we have been diligent in making sure that the leash and collar are securely connected before heading off. Despite the increased attention to detail, we are still finding that the leash will unexpectedly detach from the collar.

Great leash, bad clip/clasp - by , May 21, 2014

We love this leash, except for the clip/clasp. It comes un-clipped and has happened three times now while we were on walks. It's a good thing our dog listens and comes back to us. Please fix the clasp so we can use this leash!
