45 minutes north of Birmingham, nestled on top of Alabama’s Chandler Mountain, is an unexpected bouldering mecca. It goes by the name of Horse Pens 40 and boasts an eclectic combination of bluegrass festivals and gnarly sandstone boulders. We sent Chaco marketing specialist and occasional lensman Matt Medendorp down south past the Mason Dixon to pit himself against the sandstone slopers. As always, he packed his Classic Z’s.
