The Chaco Z The World Tour is a summer-long trip with stops at some of the country’s biggest and best outdoor music festivals and events. At each stop a guest blogger will be taking pictures and sharing stories. This week’s guest blogger is Becky Pokora of The Girl and Globe. Follow the tour on Snapchat for live updates and keep scrolling for Becky’s rundown of Dominion Riverrock.
Richmond, Virginia is a city full of adventurers enjoying Brown’s Island for a weekend of fun at the annual Dominion Riverrock festival. Riverrock is a full weekend of athletic competitions like mud races and speed paddleboarding, hands-on outdoor sports including kayaking or bouldering, and demonstrations for tricks on freestyle bikes and slacklining.
Hundreds of dogs came to play on the riverbanks and sniff out performances. The Subaru Ultimate Air Dogs pool was a popular hangout spot all three days, and a great spot to meet new people. There’s no pressure saying hello to those friendly canines and before you knew it, you’d be friends with the owner too.
Richmond is unique for having class IV rapids running right through downtown, and a group of kayakers geared up to take on the James River with competitions ranging from speed to maneuvering or just plain freestyle.
The bouldering comp was visible from the Chaco trailer and it was thrilling to witness the dynos, pure grit, and fun-hogging attitude of each contestant.
Saturday night’s G. Love & Special Sauce brought the crowd to its feet. Dominion Riverrock was the perfect first stop to this summer’s Chaco Tour, setting the bar high for other festivals during the summer. Thank You Richmond!
