Prepare for heel blisters - by , May 12, 2019
2/ 5 Stars
First off, I should say that I loved my old Chacos (wore them for 4 yrs) and only purchased a new pair because I accidentally left my old ones outside all winter and the outsole hardened and became hard and slick. Now as for these Canyon Chacos... the rubber heel strap will give you blisters... I've had my pair for 10 days and have worn them probably 5 different times for 20-45mins each time. I was hoping my feet would adjust, but they didn't. I could tell from the first time I put them on that the heel strap was going to be an issue. After only 30mins of wearing them the first day, my heel was sore. Then after wearing them a few more times I developed a blister, which healed, but then I developed one on the other heel. Maybe this issue is isolated to people with bigger feet? (I wear size 13). But either way, I have a hard time believing that these will work for many people and question how this design ever made it to retail in the first place... unless everyone who tested these just happened to not get any sort of blisters. My entire family all wear Chacos and we've always loved them, so I've never think twice about the high price. But spending $120 on sandals that I now have no desire to wear is a unfortunate, especially when they are made by my favorite sandal company... I wish I would have listened to the other reviews about blisters and held off on this new design. If you don't want to risk getting blisters, go with one of their other designs and you'll be a happy, because they are truly the best sandals you can buy. Although these sandals did not work for me. I will still always recommend Chaco sandals (excluding the Canyons) and will likely be purchasing me a new pair (of the old design) soon.

Great for running - but socks may be helpful - by , Aug 10, 2018
4/ 5 Stars
I was looking for a non-0 drop running sandal to accommodate a foot issue and stumbled across the Canyon 2. It looked promising. I am a long-time Chaco wearer (better than a decade, with two pairs on hand at all times: an outdoor pair and a “dress” pair). I also am a runner with a gouty-arthritis issue with one of my big toes. A review of the Canyon mentioned abrasion, so I duct taped below my ankles where I could tell there may be a problem. Less than one mile into my run I had significant abraison below one ankle. I changed shoes (into my outdoor pair of Chaco Z1s) to finish my run. I also get abraisons from some of my running shoes if I do not wear socks, so that is not a deal killer for me. Other than abrasion, the sandals ran really well. They fit well (true to size for me), were very secure but not tight, had a nice stride, and were very comfortable overall. I am confident I can beat the abrasion issue. My first adaptation has been to get a pair of the light-weight minimalist socks (that cover each toe individually - yes, the dork factor increases greatly, but so should the comfort...). If that does not handle the issue, I will add duct tape applied below the ankle under the sock and then go to a heavier sock if needed. These sandals are enabling me to run when shoes will simply not work for me. (In a perfect world, Chaco would make a Z1 with this sole and footbed.)

The style of sandal is different than any other I’ve ever worn. I love the back strap!

Unbearable - by , Jun 14, 2018

Everything about this new style is just fine until you get to the plastic or rubber heel strap stystem. When your standing and dry it’s fine but heaven forbid if you decide to walk anywhere and get a little moisture between the plastic and your skin. Instant blister. There’s also what appears to be a bit of plastic on the inside of the vertical piece to act as a friction barrier but nope. Instant blister. Stick with the classic fabric system. Took these on our honeymoon to Europe and quickly regretted my decision.

New heel didn't work for me - by , Jun 06, 2018

I wanted to like this new design. I've had Chacos for 15+ years. I normally wear a 9 chaco, 10 street shoe. In this shoe I wore a 10. I liked the weight and the footbed. After wearing for 4 hours, the heel "holster" pad dug into the sides of me feet under the ankle on both feet. This created a blister which opened up. I returned them to the retailer as I was unable to wear them. I will get another pair of standard Z/2s as I've never had a problem with them. If the heel can work for you, I'm sure these are bomber shoes. Chaco always stands behind their products. Time will tell whether this is a worth upgrade or a gimmick to get more $ our of you. They didn't work for me.

What we usually recommend is giving some time to break your feet into the sandals. Give us a call if you have any questions. 888.211.1908. Thanks!

Much lighter than my traditional Chaco's; very comfortable. Seem to be breaking in quickly. Very pleased.
