I own several pair of Chacos dating back to the 1990's. Since I have not had them repaired due to cost/benefit analysis, I usually look for a new pair. I discovered these last weekend, and put them on today to wear around town and to work, and found them to be the most comfortable pair that I own. The flex gives comfort, and the arch is in the right spot. I wear all kinds of shoes, and then my feet start to hurt. But these are the most comfortable, so far, and light. 'Look forward to living in these upon my move to the Sunshine State.

At first, I was hesitant to give up my Yampa's (Z/2). I tend to be rough on my footwear, from water, mud, trail, asphalt to downtown. However, I find the updraft sandal to be a solid performer (thus far) in all of these categories. I have put probably 50-60 miles on them so far, and they are still holding up. I have a bad ankle, and was nervous about wearing a sandal without the big-toe loop (such as on the Unaweep). However, I find the Updraft sandals to be surprisingly supportive, I have yet to roll my ankle while wearing them. The one glitch I have had with the design is I sometimes catch the front edge of the sandal on uneven terrain and bend them. I don't think this has any effect on the use of the product, but could be disastrous if it lead to a fall. I like the styling and find the Vibram soles to be perfectly sticky. When wet, they provide the same traction and friction that we have grown to love in Chaco sandals. They are also easier to clean in lieu of the toe loop. After every adventure I douse mine with warm water and suds and they still look new. I am planning some serious treks in various parts of the world this summer, and my Updrafts will be accompanying me. I can see how some consumers will remain with their Z/1 and Z/2's, but I am enjoying my new sandals.

Last year, on 2011, I wrote a review for the Z/1 Yampa Sandals. I´m delighted to see that the review I posted at that time seems to have been taken into account and this new product, the "Updraft" Sandal, has been developed and manufactured. The "Updraft" is a lighter "Yampa" Z/1. However, I´m not entirely satisfied. It would be very nice if all versions of Chaco sandals had at least one model that aesthetically looks very low profile. I mean SUPER discreet: solid color or tasteful pattern (such solid black, "perspective" pattern, blue "awn" pattern,...). Don´t get me wrong. Many customers will like the sporty-cool look of the Updraft on sale here, but others just don´t. I would be very happy if a new Updraft was made. A minimalist one: simple sole (like previous ones), not so many colors or patterns on the sole or on the straps. Please keep it as simple as possible, beautiful, tasteful. Or at least offer one model that fits this description. I will check back and when I see the one I like I will test it. Lastly, Chaco should avoid the temptation of the big logo on the side of sole. Before it looked much better!
